Inserting Job into Schedule Dialog

Using this dialog, you can insert a single job or a job group and multiple jobs or job groups into the schedule.

Insert a Job into the Schedule

Right-click a job and select the Insert Job into Schedule option from the Jobs pane context menu to display the Insert Job into Schedule dialog used to insert the selected job. For information about the fields used when inserting a job into the schedule, see Fields Used when inserting Jobs/Job Groups into the Schedule.

Insert a Job Group into the Schedule

Right-click a job group and select the Insert Job into Schedule option from the Jobs pane context menu to display the Insert Job into Schedule dialog used to insert the selected job group.

For information about the fields used when inserting a job group into the schedule excluding the Parameters field, see Fields Used when inserting Jobs/Job Groups into the Schedule.

When inserting a job group, the Variables field lists the name of the group variable listed on the Variables tab of the job group definition and its default value. You can modify the default values if required when inserting the job group into the schedule.

Insert Multiple Jobs/Job Groups into the Schedule

Select and right-click two or more jobs or job groups and choose the Insert Job into Schedule option from the Jobs pane context menu to display the Insert Job into Schedule dialog. When inserting the selected jobs or job groups into the schedule, select the Insert as a batch option in the Insert Job into Schedule dialog to make sure that:

  • The Predecessors' jobs are inserted into the schedule before the successor jobs.

  • A job is only inserted if the job’s parent is not part of the selection.

Note: Insert as a batch is disabled when you insert a single job or a job group.

In addition to the Fields Used when inserting Jobs/Job Groups into the Schedule excluding the Parameters and the Variables fields, these fields are displayed when inserting multiple jobs or job groups into the schedule:

  • Selected Jobs – Displays selected jobs or job groups. When inserting a multiple selection of jobs or job groups, the dialog displays the name and path of each selection to illustrate the parent-child nesting level.

  • Override Job’s time window – Enable this checkbox to enable the job time window (From time and Until time) SLA time window (At Risk From time and Until time; At Breach From time and Until time) fields, and the Timezone checkbox in the Insert Job into Schedule dialog or Insert Jobs into Schedule as a Batch dialog.

To prevent accidental mass insertion of jobs or job groups, set a threshold count and a passphrase so that the user is required to enter the passphrase when inserting multiple jobs or job groups above the threshold count. To enable this safety net, configure the Sysval:

Sysval

Description

185

Specifies the threshold limit for activating the safety net for inserting multiple jobs or job groups

186

Specifies the safety net passphrase to be entered when inserting multiple jobs or job groups

Fields Used when inserting Jobs/Job Groups into the Schedule

These fields are displayed when inserting jobs and job groups into the schedule:

  • Job/Group – The name of the job or group to insert into the production schedule. If the job or job group being inserted is a child job/job group, then the pathname to the parent is provided in brackets [ ].

    Example: Scheduler2 [\WinTest\Grp1\Grp2].

  • Date – The date on which you want the job or group inserted.

  • From Until – The time window during which the job or job group is inserted.

SLA Section

  • Track Critical Path For Job – This indicates whether the job is critical or not.

  • At Risk FromUntil – The time (in hours) during which the SLA will be at risk if the associated job did not complete within the stipulated time. Events are triggered, if a job did not complete within its SLA risk window. For more information on Job SLA events, see Job SLA Events.

  • At Breach From Until – The time (in hours) during which an SLA breach will occur if the associated job did not complete within the stipulated time. Events are triggered, if a job has violated or breached its SLA. For more information on Job SLA events, see Job SLA Events.

Timezone Section

This section is displayed only if you select the Activities > System Configuration > Timezone tab > Use Master Timezone option.

  • Master – Choose this option to run the jobs or job groups based on the Master time zone.

  • Job Based – Choose this option to run the jobs or job groups in the time zone where the jobs or job groups are defined. This field is only enabled if you select a time zone from the Schedule tab in the Job Definition or Job Group Definition dialog.

  • Timezone – Displays the time zone you selected from the Schedule tab in the Job Definition or Job Group Definition dialog.

The job or job group runs immediately, irrespective of the time zone specified for the job or job group when you:

    • Specify a Date that is the same as the Master Production Date.

    • Do not specify the From time and Until time.

Other fields include:

  • Parameters – The parameters to add to the job’s execution. By default, users can override the job parameters when inserting the job into the schedule. To change this default behavior, assign the Administration > Security Policies > Job Control > Adhoc Job Deny Parameter Override security function. When this function is enabled, the Parameters field becomes read-only, preventing overriding of job parameters.

  • Variables –The variables to add to the job. The variables added to the job in the Job Definition dialog are displayed. Click Edit to modify the selected variable and Delete to delete the selected variable.

  • Override Job Dependencies – Choose this option to have the job or job group run whether or not its dependencies have been met. Selecting this option when inserting a job group overrides job dependencies on all jobs within the job group. Note that if any of the child jobs are dependent upon one another, then all of these jobs would begin running once inserted.

  • Require Operator Release – Holds the job from running until an operator releases the job. When all the job dependencies are met and the job is ready to run, the job status changes to Waiting On Operator. The information in the Operator Instructions field in the Run Book tab of the Job Definition dialog can inform the operator of any external requirements that need to be met before the job is released.
